I think if I was to meditate on it, and really try to choose my favorite chapter of scripture, it would probably be Isaiah 53. It was foundationally impactful to me while I was still taking my first steps into faith. I’ll never forget when I was first exposed to it. Ben Stuart was the lead pastor at Breakaway Ministries at the time, and even before I was saved, his approach to teaching the Gospel captivated me. In one of my favorite talks of all time, he delivered a sermon called “Has the Bible Been Corrupted”, and it had a massive impact on me. The scripture of Isaiah 53 wasn’t even introduced into the talk until the closing moments, but it captured my heart like nothing I had ever heard before. When I wrote my first few songs, I really wanted one of them to be an interpretation of Isaiah 53, and that ended up being “For Us”. I was still learning what I wanted my sound to be at this time, but it is still one of my favorites.
